OFFICIAL LAUNCHING OF THE BLACK EUROPEAN WOMEN’S COUNCIL

Brussels, September 9, 2008Today, following on the success of last year’s First Black Women’s Council Congress in Europe, AFRA- The International Center for Black Women’s Perspectives (Austria) in cooperation with the European Economic and Social Committee, hosted a High Level Roundtable Discussion making the official launch of the Black European Women’s Council –BEWC on the “Role of Black Women in an all inclusive Europe, challenges faced by Black European Communities.”
Coorganiser is Tiye International (The Netherlands)
The meeting took place today, September 9, at the premises of the European Economic and Social Committee, in Brussels. The conference was facilitated by Brenda King, President of the specialised section in Employment, Social Affairs and Citizenship (SOC) of the Brussels-based European Economic and Social Committee.

BEWNET is an Europe-wide Network of Black European women, founded in September 2007 - during the 1st Black European Women's Congress, initiated by AFRA-International Center for Black Women's Perspectives (Austia) and co-organised by Tiye International (The Netherlands) in the framework of the European Year of Equal Opportunities for All, which was attended by about 100 Black Women from 16 EU Member States, Switzerland and the USA.
BEWNET was founded as a platform of Black Women EU-wide for the purpose of exchange of information, strategies and resources amongst Black European Women.
